Allergy Testing

Allergy testing is performed in our office and takes a little over an hour to perform. We ask that you wear short sleeves on the day of your testing as we test the skin on your arms. A gentle scratch of the skin is used to test for grasses, weeds, trees, molds, animal danders, feathers and dust mites.

The responses are read in ten minutes. A confirmatory subdermal test then verifies that you are allergic, and, if so, how severe your allergy is. A separate test is used to test for food allergies if Dr. Bateman is concerned that foods may be a problem.

Knowing your allergies can help you in two ways. First, you can avoid the things you are allergic to, and that can help your symptoms tremendously. Secondly, Dr. Bateman may recommend allergy shots or sublingual allergy drops, which can be custom-made for you. These preparations re-program your body’s immune system, making you more tolerant of the things you’re allergic to.
